  1. Exhibitors must be 4-H or FFA members of Box Elder County and must abide by the general rules. 
  2. The Box Elder County Hog Show is a nonterminal show.  Any animal that is over/under weight determined by the director, will not be allowed to unload off the vehicle. Only one market animal per exhibitor will be unloaded. The vehicle will be required to move to the end of the line if the animal does not make weight and another one is used. 
  3. All market hogs must have been owned, tagged and fed in the county by the exhibitor for at least 60 days prior to the show. 4-H or FFA members may tag an unlimited amount of hogs, as long as the Exhibitor has registered with Box Elder Junior Livestock, and purchased the tags. Box Elder County Families with registered 4-H and/or FFA members may tag an alternate/ family project animal as long as that project is used by immediate family members (brothers or sisters).
  4. Hogs must be tagged by the assigned tagging date.
  5. Market hogs must weigh between 240 and 310 pounds. No hogs will be accepted until Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. 
  6. All hogs must be washed at the time of weigh-in. 

Fitting and Showmanship Contest:

  1. Open to all FFA and 4H Hog exhibitors at the county fair.
  2. There will be four divisions: 3rd - 5th grade (Beginner), 3rd - 5th grade (Junior), 6th - 8th grade (Intermediate), and 9th - 12th grade (Senior) as of January 1, of current year 
  3. Showmanship classes will be held Tuesday at 8:00 PM. 
  4. Fitting equipment will be furnished by the exhibitor if the judge requests exhibitor to fit their animal.

 

BEJL Market Hog Carcass Contest: Exhibitors are invited to enter their market hog in the voluntary ultrasound carcass contest. Carcass data actuals will be measured and calculated. Based on calculated results, the winners will be awarded premium prize money. 

 

Swine Display Contest: An award will be presented to the best display. The displays can be done by an individual, family, club or chapter. The display will be judged on cleanliness of the pens, organization of materials and overall effect of the display. Displays must be finished by noon on Thursday. 

 

Pen space is limited. If it becomes necessary to put two or more unfamiliarized hogs in a pen, the exhibitor's will be asked to assist the director/committee in cordoning off the pen. Unwillingness to share a pen or follow instructions of the hog director will result in disciplinary action with removal from the show. Refer to the code of ethics.

 

All Hogs purchased for home use will not be released until Sunday at 7:00 AM. It is required that they are verified and checked out by the director or assistant director before leaving the grounds. No exceptions. Failure to abide by this regulation will result in an exhibitor monetary fine of $250.
